AI Automation Studio:One person, start to finish

Upper Layer Studio is deliberately small. You talk to the person writing the code, so nothing is lost between the brief and the build — and when something isn't right, there's exactly one person to tell.

Who I work with

Built around the work you need

Operations teams losing the week to manual work

You already know which tasks are eating the time. You need them to stop happening by hand, without ripping out the tools your team knows.

Founders with an AI product to ship

You have the idea and possibly a prototype. What you need is it designed, built and live — not prototyped for a third time.

Businesses losing calls and enquiries

The phone rings when nobody can answer it. You need something that picks up every time, qualifies the caller and books the work in.

The studio

Meet Upper Layer

I scope, build and ship every project myself, so the person you brief is the person writing the code. I start with the one workflow that's costing you the most time, prove it in working software on the tools you already use, and only grow the scope once it's paying for itself.

01

Find the workflow worth fixing first

I map how the work happens today, keep what already works, and pick the highest-leverage fix. You get the deliverables and a fixed fee in writing before anything starts.

02

Review it working, on your own tools

You test a working prototype connected to your real systems, with a person approving anything that reaches a customer, while changes are still cheap.

03

Ship it and hand over the keys

I deploy into your accounts with logging and alerts, document it, and walk your team through it. You own the code, prompts and infrastructure from day one.

Your project, led by me

I'm Jay, and I'm drawn to automating work with AI, building products and AI voice agents, and to the real-world applications of all of them.

We start by agreeing what needs to change and what should stay. You review the direction in working software, then I ship the scope and hand over the code, access and guidance your team needs.

How I work

A few things I care about

These are the three that change what I'd actually recommend to you, which is why they're here rather than on a values page nobody reads.

01

Keep what works

The scope gets agreed around the real problem. If part of your current process is fine, I'll say so and we'll leave it alone — replacing working things is how projects quietly get expensive.

02

Ship something small, early

One workflow running in production teaches more than three months of planning. We start with the highest-leverage piece and let what it teaches us shape the rest of the plan.

03

Build it so you could leave

Everything lands in your accounts with documentation your team can follow. If you couldn't take this in-house a year from now, I've built it wrong.

Still have a question? Book a call and we can talk it through and agree the next step.

Book a call

No. Strategy that isn't grounded in a working system tends to age badly. We start with one high-leverage workflow, ship it, and let what we learn there shape the wider plan.

No, and be wary of anyone who says they do. The intelligence comes from models like Claude and GPT, and from dedicated speech providers for voice. What I build is everything around them — the architecture, the integrations, the guardrails and the interface. That's the part that's specific to your business, and it's the part you own.

No. Plenty of work stops at an automation that quietly runs forever, and that's a good outcome. But when a workflow becomes central to how you operate, paying per task inside someone else's tool stops making sense. At that point I'll tell you it's worth rebuilding as your own software, and show you the maths.

That's the default. I build on top of your existing stack — CRM, helpdesk, warehouse, spreadsheets, whatever is actually in use — rather than asking you to migrate first.

Me, directly, start to finish. Upper Layer is a one-person studio by design: you talk to the person writing the code. When a scope needs specialist design or infrastructure work I bring in people I've worked with before, but I stay on the project throughout.

Fixed fee against an agreed scope, split across milestones. You'll have the number and the deliverables in writing before any work starts. Ongoing support is a separate monthly retainer if you want it.

Thirty minutes. You describe the problem, I ask about your current workflow and constraints, and you leave with an honest read on whether AI is the right answer and what it would take. If it isn't, I'll tell you.

You do. Code, prompts, infrastructure and documentation are handed over in your own accounts. I'm not building a dependency on me.
